Class Description:
This course will explore the extraordinary range of roles that Elijah has played in Jewish life. It will begin with his biblical role as the first prophet after Moses and as the mentor of the prophet Elisha, continue with his appearance as the forerunner of the Messiah, and also his presence in Rabbinic, Medieval and modern literature as an ever-present force for kindness and justice in the world. Taught by Rabbi Stampfer.
