Portland, OR
Class Description:
Class Description:
In this multi-generational
beginning djembe class,
students will learn
polyrhythmic African beats
as well as djembe
technique. Students will
also become comfortable
with creating their own
rhythms, adding to a drum circle, and
beginning solo methods. The class will create
a women-only space in which we can explore
parts of ourselves that mainstream society
does not usually encourage or deem
"feminine" (such as being loud, aggressive,
or musical). The class will also focus on some
of the ways rhythm can be used in Jewish
spirituality, tradition, and meditation. Drums
may be available for rental upon request.
