Please join us on Friday, January 15 at 7:30 pm in the Temple for an uplifting Memorialmhthompson Shabbat Service honoring the life and work of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. featuring members of the NW Gospel Choir, CBI Choir and keynote address by Judge Myron Herbert Thompson of Montgomery, Alabama. His talk is entitled, "Judging in Difficult Times: Berlin, 1933 to Birmingham, 1963." Judge Thompson became the first African American Assistant Attorney General, and then federal judge in Alabama, appointed by President Carter. Judge Thompson's past is filled with cases involving civil rights, school desegregation, sex discrimination, labor law, and First Amendment issues. Judge Thompson received national publicity when he ordered Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore to remove a monument of the Ten Commandments from the rotunda of the State of Alabama's supreme court building.

Marcus Mundy, President/CEO Urban League of Portland, will deliver the recently released report on the State of Black Oregon.
