Class Description:
The Joshua Stampfer Community Enrichment Award was created in 1999 to honor Rabbi Stampfer on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his ordination. The award is sponsored by the five organizations that the Rabbi helped establish: Institute for Judaic Studies, Oregon Jewish Museum, Oregon Holocaust Resource Center, Camp Solomon Schechter, Harold Schnitzer Family Program in Judaic Studies at PSU and Congregation Neveh Shalom, where he served for 40 years. The Purpose of the award is to honor an individual(s) or organization who has enriched Jewish cultural, education and/or community life with the dedication that exemplified by Rabbi Stampfer.

The awardee(s), chosen by representatives of the six above organizations from community nominations, can be Jewish or non-Jewish, living or posthumous, and be recognized for a lifetime of achievement or a specific project. Rabbi Stampfer was the first recipient of the award in 1999, followed by Hershal Tanzer in 2001, Jerry & Helen Stern in 2002, Milt Carl in 2003, Henry Blauer in 2004, Victor & Toinette Menashe in 2005, Shirley Tanzer (posthumous) in 2005, Eve and Alan Rosenfeld in 2006, Renee and Irwin Holzman in 2007 and Madeline Nelson and family in 2008.

The Zidell family has been chosen to be this year's recipient for their long tradition of enriching our community.
